Hey, Wake Forest, and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest junior and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
FRIDAY: Sep 13
Happy Friday, Deacs, and welcome back to our alumni! It’s alumni weekend and I am sure you have seen them walking around. Give them a wave or a smile– that will be you one day!
Moonlight Madness 5K & Monster Mile | 6:30 p.m.
The Moonlight Madness 5K & Monster Mile will take place at Bailey Park and will have food trucks, a DJ and free beer and pizza for registrants.
Line Dancing at West Bend Bar & Venue | 6-8 p.m.
Interested in Line Dancing? You're in luck – West Bend Bar & Venue is hosting beginner line dancing lessons and an open line dance.
Outdoor screening of Talladega Nights | 8 p.m.
A free screening of Talladega Nights hosted by A/perture Cinema will be hosted at MUSE, with hotdogs and beer being served.
Beggars Banquet (Rolling Stones tribute) and Mean Street (Van Halen tribute) at The Ramkat | 8 p.m.
Oh Dave Grohl… It has been a hard week for rock fans. BUT! The Ramkat will be hosting Beggars Banquet, a Rolling Stones tribute, and Mean Street, a Van Halen tribute.

Gooooo Deacs! It's game day and not only is it game day… It's our homecoming game. Grab your favorite alumni and drag them to the game. Or if that is not your speed, check out some of these events.
Wake Forest Homecoming Game vs Ole Miss | 6:30 p.m.
Wake Forest Football is taking on Ole Miss for our Homecoming game.
WFU Alumni Tailgate | 3-6 p.m.
The Winston-Salem Fairgrounds is hosting an alumni tailgate with live music, games and food.
Oktoberfest and Dirty Dozen 5K Obstacle Mud Run | 8 a.m.-12 p.m.
Mud?! Obstacles?! Beer Pit?!? The Oktoberfest and Dirty Dozen 5K Obstacle Mud Run is upon us. This free admission event offers games, food, a farmers market and a touch-a-truck event, on top of its 5K, fun run or mud obstacle course. This double event will benefit people in the community, Y innovative health programs benefiting cancer survivors and other chronic disease programs. Prost! Or… Grrrr! Depending on your event of choice.
Miracle Heights Adventures Public Ropes Course Day | 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
Crossnore Communities for Children is opening its doors to the public for its Miracle Heights Adventures Public Ropes Course Day. The ropes course is complete with 33 elements including climbing walls, a giant swing and a 600’ zipline.
Cars & Coffee: Lotus & French Cars | 9 a.m.-11 a.m.
Calling all car people! SECCA’s second Saturday of every month free car show is here. This month’s theme is Lotus and French Cars.
Winston Salem Vintage Festival | 11 a.m.-5 p.m.
Winston Salem’s Vintage Festival is here and will include 20+ vendors. Located at 675 W 5th St, Winston-Salem, N.C.
The Hispanic League's 32nd Fiesta Festival | 11 a.m.-7 p.m.
The Hispanic League’s 32nd annual Fiesta Festival is here to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month. In the past, this event has seen 20,000+ people and has quickly become a downtown tradition. You can expect Latin American food, music and entertainment, family fun and community resource outreach.

Candlelight: A Tribute to Adele | 8:45 p.m.
