Hey, Wake Forest, and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest sophomore and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
FRIDAY: March 1
Happy Friday Deacs. It’s the first of March — a month of leprechauns, Spring tidings and four-leaf clovers. Spring Break is so close, and yet so far. It’s the last weekend in Winston-Salem until the 22nd, so make it a good one and check out these activities:
7:30 p.m.
The Paranormal Cirque is coming to Winston-Salem and will be at the Fairgrounds. You can expect a fusion between a normal circus, theater and cabaret with acrobats, illusionists and mysterious creatures under a seemingly normal circus tent.
ACCHL M3 Premier and Elite Tournament Day 2
7 a.m. - 9 p.m.
If hockey is your thing, the Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League is hosting its Tier 3 Championship Tournament at the Fairgrounds.
Doors at 7 p.m. | Show at 8 p.m.
Grammy-winning, American banjo hall of fame-er Alison Brown will be at The Ramkat alongside special guest Riley Baugus as part of The Ramkat’s DocStock celebration.
SATURDAY: March 2
If you're not glued to your TV watching the Wake Forest Men’s Basketball Team take on Virginia Tech at 5:30 p.m. — here are some other suggestions:
7 p.m. or 10 p.m.
Day 2 of the Paranormal Cirque.
ACCHL M3 Premier and Elite Tournament Day 3 Semifinals
12:30 p.m. - 9:30 p.m.
The Atlantic Coast Collegiate Hockey League Semifinals will be at the Fairgrounds
Doors 6 p.m. | Show 7:00 p.m.
The Ramkat will be hosting DocStock II, their second annual birthday celebration honoring the legendary bluegrass picker Doc Watson. Expect performances by Jon Stickley Trio, Songs From The Road Band, Tall Tall Trees and Wyatt Ellis.
Wake Forest Men's Baseball against Binghamton
1 p.m.
Wake Forest Baseball is back and will be up against Binghamton at the David F. Couch Ballpark
8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
Are you a dog person? The Forsyth Kennel Club Dog Show will be at the Fairgrounds, so go and see your favorite pups.
Ice Skating open to the public
5-6:30 p.m.
The Fairground’s ice skating rink will be open to the public.
SUNDAY: March 3
In the deep end of midterm season stress, take some time for yourself today and check out these activities:
