Weekend in Winston: Fair! Oktoberfest! Tattoo Society?!
Old Gold & Black writer Avery Finch has your weekend plans figured out for you.
Hey Wake Forest, Avery Finch here, a Wake Forest sophomore and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston- Salem. Without further ado, here’s your second Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
Friday
Carolina Classic Fair
It's that time of year! The Carolina Classic Fair opens this Friday at 2825 University Parkway at 11:00am. The fair runs from September 29 - October 8 and offers food vendors, rides and entertainment.
And if you’re up for it enter a competition here
Fine Dining Theatre
Do you like drama? Do you like eating? Would you like to combine the two? Sir Winston Wine Loft & Restaurant is hosting an immersive dinner theater, but be warned, it’s pricey.
Tickets = $70.00
Emo Night Karaoke
If you're up for it, sing with a live backup band at Emo Night Karaoke at Hangar 1819 in Greensboro (fair warning: 38 min drive). Doors open at 7:00pm and the show begins at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $19.25. Those under 21 must pay a cover.
Corn Maze
If you feel the need to get lost in the middle of a corn field to ponder the heinous week that we’ve had, you can do so at Armstrong Artisan Farm Corn Maze.
10am - 11:00pm $12.00
* Pre-Purchase not required
At the farm, you’ll also be able to enjoy hayrides, apple cannons, a pick-your-own pumpkin patch, (your dorm could use some spicing up), a corn pit, a jumping pillow, bounce house, games, a duck race, sunflower fields, wildflowers, live music, food, ice cream, ponies, petting zoo, tractor train and horse-drawn wagon rides. Whew. What a list. They also offer, for those brave enough, a night maze with s’mores. Entry will be admitted as late as 9:30pm. More information & events can be found here.
Saturday
Sad there’s no Wake Forest football this Saturday? Me too. But no worries, I have a packed schedule for you.

In support of the Davie County Toys for Tots, the event offers a car and bike show, in which awards will be given for Best in Show, the Loudest Car/Bike, Kid’s Choice and Furthest Distance Traveled. There will also be live music by Big Daddy Mojo, food from Havana Flavor, vendor booths and an activities section. If you care to make a donation while you are there, Toys for Tots will also be accepting unwrapped toy donations.
Southern Charm at the Farm
9:00 am - 4:00 pm at Tanglewood Park $5.00
This weekend, Tanglewood Park is hosting Southern Charm at the Farm, an outdoor event that offers the opportunity to shop for pottery, bath and body products, woodworking items, sewing and textiles, antiques, home decor, leather goods, jewelry, signs and candles. Sunday
Happy October 1st! If you’ve been waiting to put up Halloween decorations, eat tons of candy corn, carve pumpkins, devour pumpkin spice treats and pull out your favorite sweaters — now is your moment. This month is likely to be filled with fall festivals, horror movies, pumpkin patches, costume parties and other October-related North Carolina events. But tik tok tik tok do not get distracted — costumes are due soon and despite months of group chat texts attempting to plan costumes, nothing has actually come to fruition has it?
If you’re searching for a costume, here are the closest Spirit Halloween stores:
2816 University Pkwy, Winston-Salem
2101 Peters Creek Pkwy, Winston-Salem
1612 S Stratford Rd, Winston-Salem
Now that you finally have your costume figured out, it’s time for some fun October related activities!
Oktoberfest
Start strong with Oktoberfest at Incendiary Brewery’s Lewisville location — 5495 Williams Rd. Free brats! Hotdogs! German lagers on draft for $10.00 with refills for $5.00! Live music!
Pumpkin Patch
Ready for a pumpkin? Hawk’s Pumpkin Patch is open and ready for you. 9:00am - 7:00 pm at its 2558 W Clemmonsville Rd. location.
Hayride
A good hayride in the countryside will often do the trick and Zane’s Clodbuster Farms offers a 6-acre corn maze, a hayride, pumpkins and gourds from 1:00pm-6:00pm.
Haunted spots of Winston-Salem
Lastly, if you want to get into the halloween spirit, here is a list of the most haunted places in Winston.
Have a great week!
