Hey, Wake Forest, and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest junior and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
FRIDAY: Nov 1
Happy Friday, Deacs! Rabbit Rabbit, to those of you who are superstitious. Halloween was yesterday — finally. Whether you've had enough of it, can't get enough of it, or are just getting your party started- check these out:
ROAR Halloween | 9 p.m.-1 a.m.
ROAR is having a Halloween party on three floors with themes of Beetlejuice in the Twisted Putterm, Nightmare on Elm Street on the second floor and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter on the rooftop with a DJ on each floor. Expect an unlimited nacho bar, bowling, simulators and Twisted Putter courses.
Halloween Bash at Bar Nola | 9 p.m.-2 a.m.
Think you have the best costume? Well, Bar Nola is hosting a Halloween Bash with a chance to win a $100 costume contest. Your $40 entry will get you complimentary beer, wine, well drinks and Jell-O shots — make it worth it.
Carolina Thunderbirds vs. Blue Ridge Bobcats | 7:35 p.m.
The Carolina Thunderbirds are back and taking on the Blue Ride Bobcats at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds.
Line dancing at West Bend Bar & Venue | 7-10 p.m.
Looking to put those boots Halloween costume boots to good use? Try line dancing at West Bend Bar & Venue.
The 45th Gingerbread Craft Fair | 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
Whether you count Nov. 1 as the first day of the holiday season or not, The 45th Gingerbread Craft Fair is back with its local crafters and artisans.
SATURDAY: Nov 2
Saturday! Except, no football, but do not fret — next Saturday is our final home game, and you know what that means. Take this football-less time to check out something new:
Carolina Thunderbirds vs. Blue Ridge Bobcats | 6 p.m.
The Carolina Thunderbirds are back and taking on the Blue Ride Bobcats at the Winston-Salem Fairgrounds.
Coyote Fall Festival & Chili Cook-off
The Coyote Fall Festival & Chili Cook-off at Incendiary Brewing will have firetrucks from 3-7 p.m., a chili cook-off starting at 4 p.m., live music, food trucks and a bonfire.
Hoedown Throw-Down Country-Themed Block Party | 6-10 p.m.
Feeling country? Head to Foothills Brewing for country karaoke and line dancing, vendors, bonfires, a raffle and chicken stew & s’mores.

SUNDAY: Nov 3
