Hey, Wake Forest, and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest junior and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
FRIDAY: Oct 25
Happy Friday, Deacs! So what do we think – is this weekend ‘halloweekend’ or next? Or both? Either way, get out there and celebrate – there is a lot of Halloween fun to be had. But don’t forget your electrolytes – candy, among other things, tend to dehydrate you.
Goose: Hurricane Helene Benefit | 8 p.m.
Goose is performing at LJVM. The concert will benefit Hurricane Helene Relief.
Crossnore ropes course day | 4:30-6:30 p.m.
Crossnore is opening its ropes course to the public. The course has 33 elements, including a 600’ zipline, climbing walls, a giant swing and a 40’ QuickFlight.
Big Backyard Movie Nights: Hotel Transylvania | 6:30-9 p.m.
Bleh, Bleh, Bleh – Crossnore is hosting an outdoor screening of Hotel Transylvania.
Vintage Market | 12-7 p.m.
The Vintage Market is back and Wise Man Brewing is hosting with 20 vendors with clothing, home decor, accessories and more. You will also be able to find food trucks and craft beers.
SATURDAY: Oct 26
No home football this weekend. Take the opportunity to explore Winston with these events or support your football Deacs from the couch today as they take on Stanford at 3:30 p.m.
Boos, Brews, and Boos Halloween Bash
Wiseman Brewing is hosting their “Boos, Brews, and Boos Halloween Bash” with beer releases, food trucks, face-painting, fire-spinning, costume contests, tarot card readings and a live performance by Barefoot Modern.
Boo! At Bethabara | 1:30-4:30 p.m.
Bethabara Park is hosting their Boo! At Bethabara, with ghost tales inside their 1834 Log House, spooky songs from 1788, colonial games and scarecrow making.
Outdoor Movie Night: The Witches | 7 p.m.
West Salem Art Hotel is hosting an outdoor screening of “The Witches.”
Victorian Parlor Series: Haunted Adventure with Krossroads Playhouse | 6-10 p.m.
Körner’s Folly is hosting their Victorian Parlor Series with Ghost Tours, haunted mystery solving, cocktails, beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres. Wear your best historical and/or spooky costume for the chance to win a prize!
The NCANA Run for Joy 5K | 9 a.m.
The NCANA Run for Joy 5k will take place in Jamison Park. The race supports mental health advocacy and wellness for healthcare trainees.
Day of the Dead | 3 p.m.
Fiddlin’ Fish Brewing is having its annual Day of the Dead event with live music from Cosmic Charlie, an Athens, Ga., Greatful Dead Tribute band. General Hyjinx will open at 3 p.m., and Cosmic Charlie will play at 8 p.m. The event will also have vendors selling tie-dyes, ceramics, cookies, etc.
SUNDAY: Oct 27
Sunday! Now is your chance to get all of your work done before your next ‘Halloweekend’ begins on Thursday - official Halloween day. Or, if you feel up for it, check out these events:
Skate and Scare | 1-3 p.m.
The Fairgrounds skating rink is back, and this time for Halloween. Go dressed in a costume to receive free admission. Four skaters dressed in costume will be chosen randomly through a raffle to win Carolina Thunderbirds tickets.
The Yacht House Party Halloween Drag Show | 11 a.m.
The Yacht House Party is having its Halloween drag show at Joymongers Barrel Hall.
The Rocky Horror Show | 7:30 p.m.
The Theater Alliance of Winston-Salem is having its 8th annual Rocky Horror Show this weekend.
