Hey, Wake Forest and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, a Wake Forest sophomore and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston- Salem. Without further ado, here’s your sixth Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
Friday
Boo! It’s Friday! Not only is it Friday, it is the weekend before Halloween — so you better have your plans in order.
Casper The Friendly Ghost Outdoor Screening
Crossnore Communities for Children is hosting a free outdoor screening of Casper the Friendly Ghost. Bring your own chairs and blankets and a picnic, or purchase your dinner from the food trucks on site.

Victorian Parlor Series: Spirited Halloween Ball
Come in your Victorian-inspired Halloween costume to watch a reenactment of a 19th-century Spiritualist séance, enjoy a Spiritualist scavenger hunt, fall-themed hors d’oeuvres, Victorian-era refreshments catered by Breathe Cocktail Lounge and classic Victorian parlor games in the home of Jule Körner at Körner’s Folly. Tarot card readings will also be available with admission as well as a pop-up exhibit with work for sale by Derek Huss, or get your aura photographed.

The Wheel of Fortune Live will be in Greensboro. Audience members will have the chance to be selected to call consonants, buy vowels and solve puzzles to win prizes like trips to Paris and Hawaii or up to $10,000.

This 1996 American Celtic punk band is making its way to Greensboro. You definitely know their song “I’m Shipping up to Boston” by now. I saw them over the summer, and if you like punk with a Celtic twist (kind of pirate-y metal vibes) these are the guys for you.

This Jolly-trolley comedy show happens every last Friday of the month and luckily enough, that falls on this Friday. The onboard comedy show will include a local craft BrewPub visit with cover charge included. Allow 2hrs +/-.

Real World Ballroom is hosting a lesson and dance party with a laying and rhythm playlist including the Cha Cha, Rumba and more. There will also be complimentary snacks, signature drinks, and a $100 cash prize for the best costume.

Wicked Wolverine Halloween Bar Crawl
Pub Pioneers is having a Winston Salem pub crawl. With ticket purchase you will receive a wristband that grants you access to a digital map of the crawl, drink specials, food specials and free entry into participating venues. Come in costume because the best costume will win free tickets to future events!

Raylen Vineyards Pumpkin Carving Festival
Raylen Vineyards is hosting its pumpkin carving festival where you can enjoy live music by SoundKraft, food by West Coast Wanderer and carving your own pumpkin. Pumpkins are $10 each in advance and $12 at the door, tools will be provided. Reserve your pumpkin here

Football plays Florida State at 12:00pm but in case you are looking for some other activities…
Kremsernacht: A Halloween Escape Room
Old Salem is offering a hands-on mystery escape room centered around Old Salem lore and the story of Old Salem’s Andreas Kremser aka “Little Red Man.” It will include visiting places that he is known to haunt in the Single Brother’s House. There will be groups of 10+ people per tour and the tours should run about 50 minutes.

Actor, comedian and author Nick Offerman will host his comedy show at the Steven Tanger Center in Greensboro.

North Star LGBTQ+ Community Center will be hosting Queernival at Fair Witness next to Krankies featuring DJ Macray, MC Drag King Flint Fahrenheit, dancing, a costume contest with prizes and games. Starting at 8:00 p.m. there will be Tarot Card Readings.

Listen to ghost stories, meet a few spirits, hear spooky song selections from 1788, make a scarecrow and play colonial games.

I don't know about you, but I have had an insanely packed week of work and have another one this upcoming week– what’s new Work Forest? So, take this Sunday to relax and catch up on your work that I know you put off until now or, if you feel like it, check out these few relaxing activities.
Hocus Pocus brunch in The Founders Restaurant at the Shaffner Inn
The Shaffner Inn will be hosting a Hocus Pocus brunch in its Founders Restaurant with specialty drinks like a Witch's Brew Mimosa, Poisoned Apple Cider and Vampire Blood Bloody Mary.
