Weekend in Winston: Let's get active! Ropes courses, dancing, comedians and sports
Old Gold & Black writer Avery Finch has your weekend plans figured out for you.
Hey, Wake Forest, and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest sophomore and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On weekends, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
SATURDAY: March 23
It’s Saturday. You know what it also is? Wake ‘N’ Shake. So, get your most comfortable sneakers on and head to the Sutton Center. If this is not your speed check out some other suggestions.
12 p.m. Sutton Gym Center
Wake Forest’s most prized tradition is back! In case you don't know very much about this beloved event — I have you covered — here is your quick crash course: Starting in 2006 with only 300 dancers, the event has now grown to the largest philanthropy event at Wake Forest (hence the badgering from the booths outside of the pit). In 2022 students were even able to raise over $3 million in lifetime funding. The event is in support of the Brian Piccolo Cancer Research Fund and the Comprehensive Cancer Center at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. At the event, you can expect dancing for 12 hours straight — lightwork right?
