Hey, Wake Forest, and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest sophomore and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
FRIDAY: April 19
Happy Friday Deacs. It is finally starting to feel like Spring! Allergies and all… This weekend will be a warm one. So get outside today!
Cosmic Charlie's Dark Side of The Dead at The Ramkat
Doors: 7 p.m. | Show: 8 p.m.
Are you a Deadhead? Do you like Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon? Cosmic Charlie, a band based out of Athens, Ga., will be performing the album live from start to finish and ending the show with popular Grateful Dead songs. More info on the band here.
Echosmith at Wake Forest's Spring Fest
4:30-9:30 p.m.
Wake Forest’s annual Spring Fest will be on Davis Field with a sunset performance by Echosmith, food trucks, carnival games and student performances.
Downtown Screening of The Never Ending Story at Bailey Park
Begins at sunset
At the screening, you can expect food trucks, vendors and drinks. Bring your own chair or blanket!
Wake Forest Mens Baseball vs FSU
6 p.m.
Our Baseball Deacs will take on FSU at the David F. Couch Ballpark
SATURDAY: April 20
Happy Saturday, Deacs! Pace yourselves on this 4/20 — it’s a busy day.
8 p.m.
NASCAR’s first and longest-running weekly track is opening for its season of car races. Didn't know we have a race track here in Winston-Salem? Me neither. Here's more info.
Cosmic Charlie's 420 Celebration
Doors: 7 p.m. | Show: 8 p.m.
It’s a Deadhead weekend I guess — Cosmic Charlie will be back to perform more Grateful Dead.
Starts at 8:30 a.m.
Foothills Brewing and Junction 311 Endurance Sports are partnering for a CraftHalf Half Marathon & 5K. The day will begin with a half marathon or 5k through the entire city block of 4th street that will be blocked off for runners. After, expect a live band and, of course, lots of craft beer.
Earth Day Fair at The Fairgrounds
10-4 p.m.
The Fairgrounds will be hosting a free Earth Day Fair with music, food trucks, environmental education and local vendors.
Wake Forest Mens Baseball vs FSU
4 p.m.
Our Baseball Deacs will take on FSU at the David F. Couch Ballpark. This is also their Epilepsy Awareness Game.
SUNDAY: April 21
Happy Sunday Deacs. I know the work is starting to seriously ramp up as the semester is nearly over. So, take today to take it easy and make sure that you get outside as Earth Day is Monday!

Calligraphy Class at Joymongers
4:30-6 p.m.
Trying to pick up a new hobby or learn a new skill? Head to Joymongers for a calligraphy class.
National Theatre Live: King Lear at Aperture Cinema
12 p.m.
Care to relive high school English class? A/perture Cinema will be playing King Lear in their theater.
