Hey, Wake Forest, and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest junior and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
FRIDAY: Oct 4
Happy Friday, Deacs! The fair is back from October 4-13! Go get some fried Oreos.
Carolina Classic Fair & Demolition Derby | 11 a.m.-11 p.m.
The Carolina Classic Fair is back! Go for the rides, the grandstand shows, hot dog eating contests, live bands, animals, magic shows, cow milking demonstrations, cowboy circus, The Living Zultar, chainsaw carving, butter sculpting and racing pigs. The demolition derby will take place at 7:30 p.m.
Line Dancing at East of Texas | 8-10 p.m.
Are your boots in your closet collecting dust? Take them for a spin and learn to line dance with Lone Star Line Dancing at East of Texas’ free event. Open dance will follow.
Willy Wonka-themed ball at Kaleideum | 6:30 p.m.-midnight
Feeling fancy? Kaleideum is hosting a formal black tie optional ball to fundraise for its museum. Go for cocktails, dinner, dancing and a live band.

Carolina Classic Fair & Figure 8 Racing
The second day of the Carolina Classic Fair. Figure 8 Racing at 7:30 p.m.
Winston-Salem's largest collectible event | 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Calling all nerds and enthusiasts — now is your time to shine. The largest collectible event in Winston-Salem will offer 150 vendors with sports cards, Pokémon, Funkos and comics. Enjoy beer and ballpark food as you shop!
Foothills Brewing Oktoberfest Carnival | 12-5 p.m.
Foothills Brewing will be hosting an Oktoberfest Carnival with a vendor market, a Stein Holding Qualifying Competition, a lederhosen competition, German food, polka music and carnival games. The proceeds of the carnival game will go to the Forsyth Humane Society.
Wiseman Brewing's First Friday | 5-8 p.m.
Wiseman Brewing is having its vendors market featuring its artist of the month, and local musicians, businesses and artists.
14th Annual Kernersville Oktoberfest | 3:00-6:00pm
Körner’s Folly is hosting their 14th annual Oktoberfest. Grab your lederhosen and drindls and go for the German, Oktoberfest and pumpkin brews. Or, go for the local restaurants that will be donating small bites. Your ticket will include beverage and food tastings, a tour of the historic Körner’s Folly house and a souvenir tasting glass from the event. You must be 21+ to attend.
Latin Fest | 5-10 p.m.
Bailey Park’s Latin Fest will have music, dancing, live performances and food trucks.
Western NC Fundraiser Paint and Sip
Wine and Design will be hosting a Paint and sip benefiting those affected by Helene in Western N.C. This event is BYOB.
SUNDAY: Oct 6
Happy Sunday, Deacs. Midterms are ominously looming so take today to get some work done. If not, here are some options:

Join Joymongers for their fall vendor market with local vendors, cupcake decorating classes, special guest appearances by Genesis De Vil and Anna Yacht and apple pie mimosas.
