Hey, Wake Forest, and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest sophomore and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
FRIDAY: April 26
Happy Friday, Deacs!! This is our last newsletter of the year! Can you believe it?! Time flew. As sad as I am that our school year is done, I have really enjoyed putting this together for you every weekend and hope that I have been able to make a difference in your year — however small! This is a super busy weekend. Although stress is HIGH right now as classes wrap up and finals approach — get out this weekend and do something fun.
Toy, Hobby, Sports Card & Comic Book Mega Show at The Fairgrounds
1-7 p.m.
Calling all geeks, nerds and connoisseurs — no shame! The Fairgrounds will be hosting a Toy, Hobby, Sports Card & Comic Book Mega Show. You can expect 350 vendor tables with collectibles, comic books, Hot Wheels, vintage and modern baseball cards, Funko pops, DC & Marvel collectibles, movie posters, pop culture nostalgia, vintage and modern toys, diecast, unopened hobby and retail wax boxes and more. Try saying that without taking a breath — woah.
Wake Forest Baseball vs Notre Dame
6:30 p.m.
Our Wake Forest Baseball team will be up against Notre Dame so tune in to ESPN to show your support!
The Winston-Salem Dash vs Rome Emperors
7 p.m.
Opa! It’s Friday and the Winston-Salem Dash are up against the Rome Emperors for their Greek Heritage Night as part of their theme nights series. The Dash will sport special Greek Night jerseys that will be up for auction post-game. ALSO, expect a post-game fireworks show!
Friday Film: Mean Girls (2024)
7 p.m.
Join Campus Life for their final Friday Film of the Spring Semester in Pugh Auditorium. They will be screening Mean Girls (2024). There will also be snacks — Ooh lala. Fun fact: Renneé Rapp is from Charlotte, N.C.!
6:30 p.m.
A small self-plug but if you love music and or choral music… the Wake Forest University Department of Music will present a final concert from the Wake Forest University Chamber Choir and Concert Choir, featuring Duruflé Requiem, Op. 9 and other choral works. A guest chamber orchestra will also play.
SATURDAY: April 27
Happy Saturday, Deacs! This is a super busy Saturday so find something from this list and get on out there.
Modified Twin 25s & a Chain Race at Bowman Gray Stadium
8 p.m.
NASCAR’s first and longest-running weekly track is open for its season of car races. This Saturday, there will be Twin 25-lap Modified races, Twin 20-lap Sportsman races, a 20-lap Street Stock race, one or two 15-lap Stadium Stock races and a Chain Race.

Bulls, Bands, & Barrels featuring Ian Munsick and Cooper Alan at LJVM
7 p.m.
Missed the last rodeo? Just like rodeos? Want to live out your The Longest Ride fantasy (a movie filmed on the WFU campus — check it out)? Bulls, Bands, & Barrels featuring Ian Munsick and Cooper Alan will be at LJVM. This rodeo event boasts the rankest bulls and bull riders in the country as well as the fastest equine to ever go around a 3-barrel turn. You can also expect freestyle bullfighting. Following this rodeo event, at 9 p.m., Ian Munsick and Winston-Salem’s Cooper Alan will end the night with a live concert.
7:30 p.m.
Pitch Perfect fans: Innuendo will take to the Brendle stage one last time this semester for their Spring Concert. The co-ed a cappella group will sing a collection of songs featuring Beyoncé, Renneé Rapp, Harry Styles and more.
Fruhlingsfest at Wise Man Brewing
12-8 p.m.
Itching for Oktoberfest? Don't fret. Wise Man Brewing will be hosting their Fruhlingsfest which means "Spring Festival" in German as a “halfway there” Oktoberfest celebration. Expect German beer, German food and live polka music. So wear something loose and head downtown for a giant pretzel.
9 a.m.
Meet at Marketplace Mall for a vendor market or along the Salem Creek Greenway for a 1 mile walk and 5k walk/run to benefit the Forsyth Humane Society.
9 a.m.-4 p.m.
Join Southern Charm at The Farm for its annual market with 300+ small business vendors, food and drinks at Tangle Wood Park.
U-Pick Strawberries at Armstrong Artisan Farm
10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Feeling Spring-y? Pick your own strawberries at Armstrong Artisan Farm.
Toy, Hobby, Sports Card & Comic Book Mega Show at The Fairgrounds

Oh Sunday, how we love and hate you. It’s the final week of classes, and finals are looming. I know this is an especially scary Sunday, but, if you can, check out these activities:
Pizza Making Class at Cugino Forno
Looking for a last hurrah to celebrate the end of the year with friends? Get a group together and head to Cugino Forno for a pizza making class. Book in advance!
Free Starry Sky Tour at Kaleideum
2 p.m.
Oh, nostalgia. Remember those star shows in the inflatable bubble from elementary school? Well, Kaleideum will be offering a free starry sky tour in their digital dome at 2 p.m.
The Big Slurp joint fundraiser at Wiseman Brewing
1-5 p.m.
Head to Wiseman Brewing for their second annual ‘The Big Slurp’ fundraiser in support of the Humane Solution Spay-Neuter Program, PAW Alliance and Stepping Stones Canine Rescue. You can expect food trucks, live music, three dog contests, vendors, a silent auction, and raffle baskets and prizes.

12 p.m.
Tune in to ESPN to watch your Baseball Deacs take on Notre Dame.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical At Steven Tanger Center
1 p.m.
Calling all theater kids — Moulin Rouge will have its final weekend after a long tour at the Steven Tanger Center. Check it out before it leaves!
A reminder that Trevor Noah will be speaking in the Face to Face series this Tuesday, April 30, at 7:30 p.m. at LJVM.
