Hey, Wake Forest, and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest junior and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On weekends, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
SATURDAY: Sep 21
No football this weekend! What will you do?! This Saturday is packed with events regardless, so check these out:
East of Texas Outdoor Movie- Freaky Friday | 5-10 p.m.
East of Texas is hosting an outdoor screening of Freaky Friday with a movie-themed food/drink special with proceeds being donated to Crisis Control Ministry. If you are interested, arrive early from 5-8 p.m. for smooth jazz before the movie starts.
Oktoberfest at Wiseman Brewing | 12 p.m.
It's that time of the year again, grab your lederhosen and dirndls and head to Wiseman Brewing for their annual Oktoberfest event. You can expect pretzels, beer (duh), and other German goodies. BUT, come prepared for a steinholding competition. In preparation, here is some extra steinholding info– on the official US Steinholding website.
Fiddlin' Fish Brewing Company Oktoberfest | 12 p.m.-7 p.m.
The Fiddlin’ Fish Brewing Company is hosting their Oktoberfest with German-style beer releases and limited edition Oktoberfest steins. Entertainment will include an Oktoberfest costume contest, a stein hoisting, barrel race, pretzel toss, stein delivery race and “sawing logs.”
Childress Vineyards Annual Grape Stomp Harvest Party | 6 p.m.
Have you seen the I Love Lucy episode in Rome where Lucy gets into a vat of grapes to audition for a movie? Well, now is your chance, except no movie audition– sorry. Childress Vineyards is hosting its Annual Grape Stomp Harvest Party with live entertainment by Kids in America– an 80s tribute band, along with food and beverages.
Rocky Horror Music Show with special guests The Hapschatt Wedding Band at The Ramkat | 8 p.m.
The Ramkat will be hosting the Rocky Horror Music Show with special guests, The Hapschatt Wedding Band.
SUNDAY: Sep 22
This Saturday was a busy one. So, there are fewer events this Sunday. Take this opportunity to relax and get some work done. Or, if you are up to it, check out these options:
19th Annual Festa Italiana | 12-5 p.m.
Raffaldini Vineyards is hosting its 19th annual festa italiana celebrating Italian culture with food, art, music, and of course, wine. They will also have food trucks, live music and entertainment.
2024 Greensboro Pride Festival | 11 a.m.-6 p.m.
The Greensboro Pride Festival is here along South Elm Street in downtown.
North Carolina Comedy Festival Showcase | 5:30-7 p.m.
The Idiot Box Comedy Club is hosting 12 comedians from around America for the North Carolina Comedy Festival Showcase.
Autumn Bouquet Painting Class | 12-2 p.m.
Learn to paint at Painting with a Twist… and maybe a free mimosa or two.
