Hey, Wake Forest and happy weekend! My name is Avery Finch, and I’m a Wake Forest sophomore and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston-Salem. Without further ado, here’s your Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:
FRIDAY: 23
Happy Friday Deacs! With all of this rain, get yourself inside tonight with these events:
World Ballet Series: Swan Lake performed with a LIVE orchestra
7-9:30 p.m.
The World Ballet will be in Winston-Salem this weekend performing Swan Lake at the R.J Reynolds Auditorium.
David Foster and Katharine McPhee At Steven Tanger Center
8 p.m.
The 16-time Grammy award-winning writer/producer, David Foster, and Katharine McPhee will be performing at the Steven Tanger Center in Greensboro.
Carolina Thunderbirds vs. Baton Rouge Zydeco
7:30 p.m.
The Carolina Thunderbirds are against the Baton Rouge Zydeco at the fairgrounds.
Wake Forest Baseball vs Dayton
4 p.m.
Wake Forest Baseball is back with a series against Dayton at the David F. Couch Ballpark
SATURDAY: 24
Duke = puke. It’s game day. Against our biggest rivals. So, get that black and gold on and cheer on your fellow Deacs at 2 p.m. Here’s your Saturday events:
Wake Forest Men's Basketball vs Duke
2 p.m.
Wake Forest Men’s Basketball is against Duke at the Joel. Expect tie-dye shirts and pompoms for the first 1,000 students.
Carolina Thunderbirds vs. Mississippi Sea Wolves
6 p.m.
The Carolina Thunderbirds will be taking on the Mississippi Sea Wolves at the fairgrounds.
Harley Davidson Chili Cook-Off
11 a.m. -2 p.m.
Big chili person? Have a great chili recipe you have been trying to show off? Head to the Harley Davidson chili cook-off to participate in the contest or to taste contestants' recipes. All proceeds will go to Pretty In Pink Breast Cancer Foundation.
The Deacon Dash for Down Syndrome — a 5k race — will be held at the Fairgrounds. Show your support for the Down Syndrome Association of Greater Winston-Salem
Central Carolina Boat and Fishing Expo
9 a.m. - 6 p.m.
If you like boats and water sports — the Central Carolina Boat and Fishing Expo will be held in Greensboro.
Wake Forest Baseball vs Dayton
4 p.m.
Wake Forest’s second day of their series with Dayton at David F. Couch Ballpark
SUNDAY: 25
Happy Sunday Deacs! I don't know about you but I’m starting to feel the “‘work”’ in Work Forest. Take it easy after a long week of classes with these activities:
WFU Choirs with UNCSA Cantata Singers & Symphony Orchestra
3 p.m.
For the first time, Wake Forest Choirs will be collaborating with UNCSA for a performance of Duruflé Requiem with conductor Jamie Allbritten at Centenary Methodist Church.
Live Jazz Sundays at Foothills
5-8 p.m.
Ya like jazz? Then you will enjoy Jazz Sunday at Foothills Brewing
Wake Forest Baseball vs Dayton
1 p.m.
Day 3 of Wake Forest Baseball’s series with Dayton at David F. Couch Ballpark
