Hey Wake Forest and happy weekend, my name is Avery Finch, a Wake Forest sophomore and writer for the Old Gold & Black. On Fridays, I’ll be taking over the OGB newsletter to help students discover fun things to do in and around Winston- Salem. Without further ado, here’s your third Weekend in Winston guide, courtesy of me and my Google expertise:

Happy Friday! We're now one week closer to fall break, and whether you've finished all your midterms or you have a few left, it’s time to forget about your work for at least an afternoon and do something fun.
Taylor Swift Laser Dance Party
Dance to a live DJ playing your favorite Taylor Swift songs at The Ramkat.
Where: The Ramkat (170 W Ninth St)
Doors open at 7:00pm

Josh Mancuso Comedy Show
Josh Mancuso is known for his viral comedy videos mainly centered on college football and has starred in commercials, TV shows, feature films and multiple short films.

Kersey Valley Spooky Woods Haunted Attraction
Dancing and comedians not your thing? Kersey Valley Spooky Woods Haunted Attraction is open and offering a 50,000 square foot walkthrough maze, a cornfield laser maze, a dark tram ride, a haunted trail, escape rooms, zipline tours, outdoor axe throwing, a corn maze, a live DJ and spooky actors.

When: 8:00pm - 11:00pm every Saturday & Sunday until November 4th

IJM Coffee Tasting Fundraiser at Sayso
This fundraiser by Wake Forest’s International Justice Mission chapter is raising money for a rescue mission for individuals stuck in human trafficking. This event is an open house, so stop by to try out some coffee (& pastries), learn about IJM and aid in the fight against slavery.
Where: Sayso Coffee, 15 Brookstown Ave
When: 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm
$10 entry fee (all proceeds go to IJM)
RayLen Vineyards & Winery's Fall Corn Hole Tournament
Feeling competitive? Interested in the possibility of winning a cash prize? Register your corn hole team for RayLen Vineyards & Winery's Fall Corn Hole Tournament. But make sure to register your two person team here for a $50.00 registration fee that goes toward the Gilliland Foundation to benefit children battling cancer. Find out more about the Gilliland Foundation and their mission here. If you prefer to watch the tournament, the event will also have food trucks, there will be a live auction and the band Tin Can Alley will play from 2:30 - 5:30 pm.
13th Annual Kernersville Oktoberfest
The 13th Annual Kernersville Oktoberfest will offer Oktoberfest beers, pumpkin brews, local wine and mead. Restaurants are also donating small bites. With your ticket, you will receive a souvenir tasting glass, beverage and food tastings, and a house tour of historic Körner’s Folly.

Carolina History & Haunts
Interested in a ghost tour? Me neither, but in case you said yes, Carolina History & Haunts offers ghost tours weekly on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. You can choose from a 7:00 pm tour or a 9:00 pm tour on Saturdays, and an 8:00 pm tour on Mondays and Fridays.
Oktoberfest Market
Joymongers’ Oktoberfest will offer vendors such as Femfest, Meadow Pond Creations, Dig. Garden Gift & Subscription Box, Abuelas Crafts, Laura Morales Studios and All_a_little_creations. There will also be Oktoberfest Lager on tap, games, food and from 7:00-10:00 pm, a live band — Barefoot Modern Trio will be playing.

Astronomy Night
The Greensboro Astronomy Club will be offering a sky observing session at the Iron Ore Belt Access at Hawke River State Park from 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm. Viewing equipment and telescopes will be set up on site, but it is encouraged to bring your own telescope if you have them, as well as a chair or blanket. They also ask that you bring a flashlight (preferably red light in order to preserve the night vision). You can expect to see closer-than-typical views of planets, star clusters, the moon and other celestial objects.

Hacker House
Interested in a Haunted House with a story? Hacker House is offering their haunted house at 188 Hacker House Trail Pilot Mountain and have times from 8:00pm - 10:30pm. Read the story of its haunting here.

With midterms on the horizon, I’ll keep your Sunday itinerary short and sweet.
Carolina Classic Fair
Last chance to visit The Carolina Classic Fair as it closes its doors at the end of the day and will not be back until next year. The fair offers food vendors, rides and entertainment.

BATL Axe Throwing & Break’N Bash
Stressed out? Get your anger out by axe throwing at Batl Grounds in downtown Winston-Salem next to Earls. Or, if you are up for a drive, go break things at the rage room Break’N Bash in Greensboro.
